Hey, LJ...

I'm reposting my commission info again. I hope you don't mind! I'm struggling with vet bills (among other things) and all around having a rough time. So if you have some extra cash, I'd love to make something awesome for you! I also have awesome pre-made stuff for sale in my Etsy Shop. I'm listing new items almost every day so check back often!

Love,
- Megan

YAY FRANCE!

It's only just starting to hit me that I'm going to France in two months... OMG I AM GOING TO FRANCE IN TWO MONTHS! :-D Haha!!!

I only have a few things left to square away: the last payment for the tour, my return train ticket, and a place to stay in Paris for one night. Once those are done it will be 100% official!

I can't believe it! This is something I've wanted so badly for nearly three years and I finally just decided I was going and found a way. I'm so proud of myself! Yay!

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY, DAD! :-D

I drew you this picture.

Tada!

That's me giving you a thumbs up.

Sorry the compression is so bad. It's the thought that counts, right?

France Jitters

I'm stressed out about France again. It's nearly time to book my train tickets. I booked my flight home a day after the tour ends. The original plan was to hang around in Brive all day and take an overnight train to Paris. But now I have this crazy idea to leave early and spend the day in Paris instead. It would require me to find overnight accommodations, though. I'll also be alone. And I'm a bit nervous about that.

But I could go to the Louvre for the afternoon... And that would be awesome.

What should I doooo? :-|

Post MoCCA

Welp, MoCCA is over! If you haven’t been following my LiveJournal, I wrote a little report here and a bit about my swag here. Hooray!

As always after MoCCA, I’m feeling super pumped to get started on a new project! I have a couple of 30 to 50 pagers I’ll be getting started on soon. They may or may not have a regular updating schedule. We shall see! And, of course, there is my graphic novel which I will be getting super serious about after my trip to France in the fall.

Flashlight was received well at MoCCA! It even got a lovely review on Robot 6 by Kiel Phegley. Thank you Kiel!!

I’m feeling pretty happy about my comics career lately! It’s a long road, but I’m getting there. :-)

Rats, Frames, Bikes, Summer

Catch is doing much much better! He's on his feet again and eating solid food. He's still a little bit sluggish, but he's getting around. Phew! He was seriously at death's door a week ago. I'm so glad the antibiotics and the "eggnog" worked to get him well.

I bought this awesome silk screen print by the insanely talented Shawn Cheng at MoCCA! I dropped it off at the frame shop today along with the Spiral Bound print I got from the super awesome Aaron Renier at MoCCA a few years back. They're both getting SWEET custom mats and frames. I can't wait to see them!

Speaking of MoCCA swag, I didn't buy all that much, but I was really happy with my purchases. In addition to the print, I also bought two of Shawn's minis. I also picked up the two minis of Matt Weigle's that I didn't own yet. I buy minis from Matt every year because I am Matt's biggest fan. :-D

I'm getting a bike! This will honestly be my first REAL bike. I had ONE I can remember that I got new when I was growing up, but I outgrew it very fast. All my other bikes have been hand-me-downs. All of them not quite right for me. So this is super awesome and the local bike shop has the EXACT bike I want in stock in my size! It's fate I tells ya! I can't wait to get it. I'm going to put a down payment on it on Tuesday when I get my paycheck. Ah, layaways... So convenient!

It's still a tad cool, but today really felt like summer. I went hiking and swimming today! Yay! I hope it continues to be sunny and hot.

Sadly, I don't have anything good to report about my rat, Catch. He has "profound weakness" as my vet put it and there's no way to diagnose exactly what's wrong with him. They can't perform a blood test so we're just making best guesses at this point. It's apparent that Catch's illness is internal and there is a possibility that it's viral or bacterial. He's on antibiotics since bacteria would be the easiest to treat and we just have to wait and see how he does.

Sigh. Not the best way to end my vacation, but at least I could afford the vet!

I did very well at MoCCA. The best I have ever done! Yes, the new venue lacked the charm and air conditioning of the Puck Building, but the energy was still great. My table was super busy pretty much straight through. I didn't really get a chance to get around to see everyone and I do regret this a bit. Next year I will force myself to leave my table for awhile!

It was so awesome meeting everyone at the Lady Party and during MoCCA! Thank you so much to everyone who helped make this MoCCA so successful for me. I really appreciate your support!

I also want to say THANK YOU for the efforts of everyone who helped me out at the end of the fair. My hard-earned cash slipped out of my back pocket and was missing for a horrifying 30 minutes or so. I didn't catch your name, but to the lovely lady who found it, I can't thank you enough! You're my hero!

As always after MoCCA, I'm super pumped up and ready to make more comics! Woo hoo! I have some plans for some new work that I hope to start sharing with you soon!

MoCCA rocked! But a report will have to wait. I came home to a very, very sick rat. It's Catch this time. :-( He keeps chewing on my arm when I hold him so he has to wait for his vet appointment in his cage instead of being cuddled in my lap. Poor little man!! I think he's super hungry, but he's too weak to eat. But why he thinks my arm is food is beyond me. Anyhoo, please keep him in your thoughts today.

My Packing Plan

  • Jun. 3rd, 2009 at 9:23 PM
greytone
Step 1: Throw everything in my car.
Step 2: Sort it out later.

:-D

I'm heading out to Hyde Park in the morning! I haven't even started packing. But everything is pretty much finished. I might force myself to make oooone more wallet (I have 9), but I'm tired. :-| And I kind of want to drive out to Guilford and crawl into Glenn's bed...

In other news, I went to see UP today. It made me cry! But it was good.

MoCCA To Do List Update

  • Jun. 1st, 2009 at 8:33 PM
greytone
- Print covers and assemble mini comics.
WOO! I still need to finish binding the last of my Moonstruck books, but I'm counting this as finished.

- Finish the last two 10" Nonesuch dolls.
I'm not sure if I'll get to this, but I'm going to try.

- Make labels/price tags for all the new Nonesuch dolls.
This is tomorrow's project!

- Make business cards/book marks.
I made 100 business cards and 100 bookmarks today! The bookmarks have an awesome coupon to my Etsy shop on them.

- Make a few more wallets.
I have four so far. I'm aiming for 10, but we'll see.

- Work out a plan for my half table display. (So all this stuff looks organized!)
I have so much stuff. I'm more worried about how I'm getting it all to NYC than my table display at this point. :-| The mini comics and miscellaneous stuff all fit nicely in my new backpack. But the box of Flashlight books and the box of plush are going to be a little more challenging.

Sooo yeah! I still have quite a bit to do. But I have Wednesday off and the only thing I need to do that day is go to a doctor's appointment so I'll plenty of time to wrap things up. On Thursday I'll be off to Hudson Valley to meet up with Laura and then we'll be taking the train into NYC on Friday. WOO!

I'm so excited for MoCCA this year!

Nonesuch Amethyst the Dragon Hatchling

greytone
Everyone knows that dragons love treasure. Amethyst is no exception! You might say she's a little more obsessed than other dragons. If it's shiny, sparkly, or even remotely pretty, Amethyst wants to horde it. Don't get upset if she makes off with your favorite bracelet, though. She's merely protecting it and will give it back if you ask nicely. Amethyst would do best with someone who doesn't mind a little dragon curled up in their jewelry box.

This is the last of my dragon hatchling series! :-D I hope you enjoyed meeting them.

The Trees and Hills Comics Group is putting out a new anthology called “First Harvest.” I did the art for the cover! And here it is!

The anthology is 166 pages and will sell for $10.00. I believe Trees and Hills will have them for sale at MoCCA. :-D

MoCCA! I am almost ready for you!

I'm trying to avoid the last minute scramble for MoCCA by getting ahead of the game. It actually feels a little weird because I'm notorious for waiting until the last minute to get things done. But considering how unprepared and miserable I was at MoCCA last year, I'm not taking any chances! I'm going to ROCK MoCCA this year! Just you wait and see.

Here's what I have/plan on brining:
- My Flashlight books will be here on Thursday! I'm not sure if I will be lugging all 100 copies to MoCCA, but I will be brining as many as I can reasonably manage.

- I went and printed 50 copies each of Worth the Effort, A Taste of Paradise, and The Thunderbird. They are trimmed and sorted. I'm printing the covers and getting started on assembling them tomorrow. I just miiiight re-print The Surgeon's Photo, but we'll see. I misplaced the master so I'd have to make a new one and it might just be more work than I'm willing to put into it. I'll also have the last copies of Moonstruck with me which will not be re-printed once they are gone.

- I finished my set of Nonesuch dragon hatchlings. I have a few other tiny Nonesuch, my Best Bears, and some itty bitty Best Bears to bring along. I'll also be bringing my set of 10" Nonesuch dolls. (I don't expect the 10" Nonesuch to sell at all because they're expensive, but I want people to be able to see them in person.)

- I finally worked out the kinks in my wallet design! So if I can find the time to make them, I'll be bringing a small batch of them with me.

- I'll also be brining some miscellaneous stuff like left over badge buttons (if I can find them) and my Tiny Monster seconds.

- And of course I will have some freebies like business cards, bookmarks, and perhaps those postcards I got from SVA that I still have a gazillion of.

And here is my actual to-do list:
- Print covers and assemble mini comics.
- Finish the last two 10" Nonesuch dolls.
- Make labels/price tags for all the new Nonesuch dolls.
- Make business cards/book marks.
- Make a few more wallets.
- Work out a plan for my half table display. (So all this stuff looks organized!)

I can totally do this all before I leave next week (and I'm not even being sarcastic!). YEAH! I am so insanely excited for MoCCA this year!

THIS IS GREAT! It's going to be like CHRISTMAS!

I also want to say THANK YOU! to the people who have taken advantage of my free shipping special so far. I appreciate it immensely! The sale will continue until June 3rd.

Nonesuch Kunzite the Dragon Hatchling

Kunzite is a natural born flyer! She is far advanced in her arial talents for her tender age. She is a bit of a show-off, however, and loves to be the center of attention. She'll pull dangerous stunts, loopty-loops, and push herself to the limit just to get a gasp or a whoop out of onlookers. She would do best in a place where she can fly to her heart's content, but she needs a diligent caretaker to keep her safe.
